(euskaraz)

Emakumea: probaldian dagoen suhiltzaile gaztea da, bere aita magnatearen nahien kontra karrera aldatu duelarik. Ama 9 urterekin galdu zuen, beraz, azken 15 urteetan aita eta biak bakarrik izan dira… eta haren erreakzioak izutzen du.

Oraindik maiteminduta dago unibertsitateko bere mutil-lagun ohiarekin, urtebeteko harremanaren ondoren, bat-batean bere bizitzatik desagertu zena baduela hiru urte.

Gizona: idazlea eta suhiltzaile-familiako ardi beltza, kazetaritzaren munduan gora egin nahi duena. Azkenean, bere aukera ikusten du Eight Halleko suhiltzaile berrien probaldiaz erreportaje bat idazteko enkargua jasotzen duenean… harik eta probaldiko suhiltzaile hori bere ihes egindako neska-lagun ohia dela ohartzen den arte. Gorroto dion emakume bera.

Onena: trama.
Ondo antolatuta dago, eta erritmoari eusten dio. Bikotea behartuta dago elkarrekin lan egitera, eta ertzak leundu behar dituzte Eight Hall salbatu ahal izateko.

Txarra: sexu-eszenak, zalantzarik gabe. Idazleari honi buruz idaztea gustatzen ez zaiola dirudi; halere, generoaren beharrak direla eta… hor txertatuta daude.

Gainera, ez dira bereziki errealistak: bakarkako ohean eroso biraka? Zein handiak dira zuen batentzako oheak? Orgasmo azkarrak eta bata bestearen atzetik… Horrelako gauza ugari.

Ez dira guztiz pikanteak ere. Generoak halako uneak eskatzen ditu eta hor daude, nolabait; baina hitz estrategikoen nahasketa dirudite… eta ondoren, berriz ere narrazioarentramara bueltatuko gara, mesedez?

Itsusia: badira zentzurik gabeko elementu narratibo batzuk, eta zenbait intimitate deseroso samarrak dira. Hala ere, gainerako tramari esker, nolabait konpentsatuta geratzen da.

Spicy bila bazabiltza, ez dut uste hau zuretzat denik. Baina…

Istorio nahiko on baten bila bazabiltza, aurrera! Pasatu arin eszena horiek, bete hutsuneak zure irudimenarekin, eta funtzionatuko du.

Eskerrik asko Bookouture eta NetGalley nire iritzi pertsonalaren truke ARC hau (aurreko alea) irakurtzeko aukera emateagatik.

(English)

The woman: a firefighter on probation going against her big mogul father’s will (and without him knowing she changed careers). She lost her mom at 9, so it’s been just her and her dad for the last 15 years— and she’s terrified of how he’ll react.

She’s still in love with her college boyfriend, who pulled a disappearing act three years ago after a meaningful one‑year relationship.

The guy: a writer and the black sheep in a firefighter family, aiming for a promotion in the journalism world. He finally sees his chance when he’s assigned to write a feature on the newest probie at Eight Hall fire brigade… until he realises that probie is the one who got away. The same woman who hates him for life—and whose father owns the newspaper he works for.

The good: the plot.

It’s well-timelined, and the background holds well. The couple is forced to work together, and they need to smooth out the rough edges so they can save Eight Hall and face their respective family issues and bottled-up pasts.

The bad: definitelythe sex scenes. It feels like they are written by someone who doesn’t enjoy writing about it but needs to include them, so it’s  done… and now let’s get back to the fun

These scences don’t look realistic: rolling around in a single bed? How wide are your singles?? Orgasms are super fast and multiple…. That sort of thing.

It’s not even that spicy. The genre just needs some steamy moments and they are placed there somehow, but they read like strategic words put together and… done. And then. back to the story.

The ugly: some narrative elements don’t make sense and some intimacies are ugly as hell. But it can be forgiven by the rest of the plot as it somehow makes up for it. However, the couple doesn’t seem to share any more than physical moments when they’re together. Where is the emotional connection? Some sentences serve as conversation but little else; you’ll have to imagine the rest of their time together.

If you’re here for the spice, I don’t think it will do it for you. But…

If you’re here for the story, go ahead! Just skim those scenes, imagine them better, and it’ll work.
