Benetan gustuko izatea nahi nuen. Hala ere, irakurtzeko erraza bada ere eta narrazioaren aberastasunean koherentea izan arren, trama eta harreman nagusia (eta bigarren mailakoak ere, egia esan) astunak eta nekagarriak iruditu zaizkit. Liburuaren erdialdean, alde batera utzi nuen, eta aste batzuk kostatu zait berriz irakurtzen hastea, normalean seinale ona ez dena.

Antagonistak potentzial handia du, baina amaieran agertzeak benetan merezi duen garrantzia kentzen dio. (Spoiler: pertsonaia hau garaitzeko duten modua ona iruditu zait, baina laburregia; askoz gehiago eman zezakeen bere buruaz, nor den kontuan hartuta). Cliffhangerrak potentziala ematen dio trilogia berri honen hurrengo faseari, espero zitekeen zerbait bada ere. Hala ere, hasierako hiru liburuen arrakastaren luzapena dela dirudi, eta berritasun falta erakusten du, gehiago esploratu izana gustatuko litzaidakeena.

Jace eta Claryren arteko harremana gero eta nekagarriagoa egin zait: salbatu beharreko “mutil gaiztoaren” egoeraz gain, istorio honetan benetan kapullo samarra da. Ulertzen dut mutil emoaren joera eta atraktiboa, baina bizi dituzten egoerak kontutan harturik, ez dut ulertzen nola ez duten informazio gehiago bilatu aurreko liburuan gertatutakoari eta horren ondorioei buruz (egia esan, bietako inork ez du pentsatzeko ohiturarik, horregatik daude bata bestearentzat eginda), eta hare jasangaitzagoa nola ez duten inoiz laguntzarik eskatzen gertatzen zaiena ulertzeko.

La verdad es que quería que me gustase pero aunque sea fácil de leer y consistente en la riqueza de su narrativa, el plot y la relación principal (y las auxiliares, ya sea de paso) me han parecido pesadas y algo cansinas. Paré a medio libro y me ha costado varias semanas retomarlo, algo que no suele ser buena señal.

La figura antagonista tiene gran potencial, pero su revelación casi al final le resta la importancia que merece y (alerta de spoiler: la manera en la que vencen a este personaje me ha parecido buena pero corta, podría haber dado muchísimo más de sí, para ser quien era).

El cliffhanger aporta una potencialidad para la siguiente fase de esta nueva trilogía algo esperada, pero que se siente como un arrastre del triunfo de la trilogía inicial y muestra una falta de novedad que me hubiese gustado que se explorase.

La relación entre Jace y Clary cada día me parece más agotadora, con la imagen de chico malo al que hay que salvar, que en este caso resulta ser un capullo. Entiendo que sea un chico emo, pero nadando en las aguas que nadan, no entiendo cómo no han buscado más información de lo que pasó al final del libro anterior y sobre las repercusiones que dichas acciones pudieran conllevar (la verdad es que a ninguno de los dos se les da muy bien pensar, están hechos la una para el otro y el uno para la otra). Otra cosa que es insostenible es que ni pidan ayuda para descubrir y entender lo que les pasa.

The truth is that I really wanted to like it, but even though it’s easy to read and consistent in the richness of its narrative, the plot and the main relationship (and the secondary ones, to a lesser extent) felt heavy and somewhat tiring to me. I stopped halfway through the book, and it took me several weeks to pick it up again, which is usually not a good sign.

The antagonist has great potential, but their reveal almost at the end takes away some of the importance they deserve (and spoiler alert: the way they defeat this character seemed good but too brief to me; it could have given much more, considering who they were). The cliffhanger brings some potential for the next phase of this new trilogy—something that was somewhat expected—but it feels like it’s riding on the success of the original trilogy and shows a lack of novelty that I would have liked to see explored more.

The relationship between Jace and Clary feels more exhausting every day, with the whole “bad boy who needs to be saved” situation—which in this case turns out to be even more of a I’m a jerk situation. I understand the emo guy alure, but given the waters they’re constantly swimming in, I don’t understand how they haven’t looked for further information about what happened at the end of the previous book and its repercussions (to be honest, neither of them seems very good at thinking things through, so they really are made for each other), nor asked for help to understand what’s happening to them.

We’ll see how it develops…
