Hau Buffyren istorioa da, ohiko institututik berriki kanporatua izan dena, eta bere ama Lorelairena. Elkarrekin, herri txiki batera doaz euren amona/birramona misteriotsuarekin bizitzera, ustez sorginduta dagoen liburu-denda bat daramana. Txantxak alde batera utzita, liburu hau cozy mystery bat da (heriotza barne) pop kulturako erreferentziaz betea eta askotan irribarrea eragin didana.

Oso modu erakargarrian hasten da (orrialde gutxi batzuk irakurri eta, berehala, ama-alabekin autoan nengoela zirudien). Witch Slap istorioan bezala, zuzenean euren eguneroko dinamikan sartzen zaitu: aitortu behar dut halako hasierak asko gustatzen zaizkidala eta laster harrapatzen nautela beti.

Hala ere, liburuaren bigarren erdi alderantz, zenbait akats txiki antzematen hasi nintzela (kontuan izan aurrerapen-kopia bat irakurri nuela), beraz benetan espero dut xehetasun horiek azken bertsioan zuzenduta egotea, istorioak merezi du eta.

Beste arazo bat erreferentziak izan ziren; txisteak bezalakoak dira: azaldu behar badira… uff. Azalpenak elkarrizketetan modu naturalean txerta litezke, adibidez, baina ez narratzailearen bidez, horrek kendu egiten baitie kultur erreferentziek izaten duten kutsu jostari hori.

Orokorrean, istorio dibertigarri bat da: pertsonaia maitagarriak ditu, herri txiki baten xarma (2000ko hamarkadako familia-serie asko gogorarazten dituena) eta argitu beharreko heriotza misteriotsu bat.

Edabeari magia pixka bat gehitu, eta emaitza azken batean ez zaituen hutsik egingo duen eleberri atsegina da.

Esta es la historia de Buffy, recién expulsada de su antiguo instituto, y de su madre, Lorelai. Juntas se mudan a un pequeño pueblo para vivir con su abuela/bisabuela, que regenta una librería supuestamente encantada. Bromas aparte, este es un cozy mystery (muerte incluida) cargado de referencias a la cultura pop que me hizo sonreír.

La novela empieza con una escritura muy envolvente (tras unas pocas páginas ya sentía como si estuviera en el coche con esta madre e hija). Al igual que en la historia de Witch Slap, aterrizas directamente en su rutina, y debo admitir que este tipo de comienzos me gustan y me enganchan.

Sin embargo, hacia la segunda mitad del libro empecé a notar algunos pequeños fallos de edición: signos de puntuación fuera de lugar y algunos errores que, de alguna manera, me sacaron un poco de la historia (recordemos que leí una copia anticipada) y espero de verás que haya dado tiempo a corregir estos detalles en la versión final.

Otro problema fueron las referencias. Son como los chistes: si tienes que explicarlos… ups. Las explicaciones podrían integrarse de forma natural en los diálogos, por ejemplo, pero no a través del narrador (le quita el guiño que suelen tener las referencias culturales).

En general, es una historia divertida, con personajes adorables, el encanto de un pueblo pequeño (que me recuerda a muchas series familiares sobre todo de los años 2000) con una misteriosa muerte por resolver.

Añade un toque de magia a la tetera y el resultado final es una novela acogedora que no defrauda.

This is the story of Buffy, expelled from her former high school, who moves with her Lorelai-like mother to a small town to live with their mystical grandmother/great-grandmother, who runs a charmed bookstore. Puns aside, it’s a pop-culture-packed cozy mystery (murder included) that made me grin.

It starts with a compelling writing —just a few pages in and I felt as if I were in the car with the mother and daughter. I could easily grasp their dynamics and I was hooked. As in the Witch Slap story, you fall directly into their routine and I enjoyed that quite a lot.

However, in the second half-ish of the book, I started noticing some minor editing issues —misplaced punctuation marks and a few capitalization errors that somehow took me away from the story (remember I had an advanced copy reading chance) and I really hope those details are corrected in the final version.

Another issue was the references. They are like jokes: if you need to explain them… meh. Explanations could be added naturally within dialogue, for example, but not through the narrator —it takes away the playful wink that pop culture references usually have.

Overall, it’s a playful story with lovable characters, small-town charm and a mystery to solve.

Add a touch of magic to the teapot and the final result is a cozy novel that won’t let you down.
