Kasu honetan, bigarren erditik aurrera berriro nabaritu dut ekintzaren tirada hori eta irakurtzen jarraitzeko gogoa.

Hasieran, aurreko liburuarekin bezala gertatu zait: protagonista nagusien arteko harreman nekagarria suertatu zait. Jace bilatzeko beharra dago, heldu guztien begietan gaizto bihurtu dena, baina ez Claryren begietan (nola ez nerabeen maitasun baldintzarik gabe, itsu eta mingarria), eta honi esker, bere familiaren eta lagunen begietan ere duda zabaltzen da.

Kasu honetan Maiaren pertsonaia da liburua salbatzen duena. Baita Alec eta Magnusen arteko harremanak ere, oso maitagarria iruditzen zaidana … Nahiz eta gazteenaren jarrera tontotxoak argi ikustarazten duen zerbait egingo duela eta dena nahasiko duela. Simonek ere pixka bat behera egiten du, eta Izzy… Minduta dago, baina, tira, non dago bere indarra, bere pertsonalitatea esanguratsua?

Hala ere, aitortu behar dut Claryk buruzagitza hartzen duen momentutik aurrera benetan hasten dela istorioa, eta saga honek merezi duen erritmo bizian aurrera eramaten duela.

En este caso, ha sido a partir de la segunda mitad cuando he notado ese pull de nuevo de la acción y las ganas de seguir leyendo.

Al principio, me ha pasado como con el tomo anterior: relación cansina entre la pareja protagonista principal, necesidad de buscar a Jace, que se ha vuelto malo a ojos de todas las personas adultas excepto a los de Clary (amor adolescente e incondicional, ciego y doloroso), y gracias a ella, a los ojos de su familia y amistades.

Les salva, en este caso, el personaje de Maia y la relación entre Alec y Magnus, que me parece adorable, dentro de la tontería infantiloide del más joven que se ve… se ve… que la va a liar. Simon también decae un tanto, e Izzy… en fin: ¿¿¿dónde está???

No obstante, tengo que admitir que, una vez Clary toma las riendas, empieza realmente la historia y la hace avanzar de la forma trepidante que esta saga merece.

Aún así, debo admitir que me ha defraudado el bajón de calidad de la escritura, o quizás la traducción. He tenido que buscarlo, pero efectivamente, he visto que la primera trilogía y la segunda no han sido traducidas por la misma persona y se nota. Ciertas expresiones y frases parecen una traducción literal sin interpretación y sin adaptación a la cultura o tradiciones locales, y me han sacado del libro en vaaarias ocasiones. Esto no debería pasar nunca.

Veremos cómo progresa… Creo que, de seguir así, las siguientes las leeré en inglés. Ya os contaré.

In this case, it was from the second half onward that I started to feel that pull of the action again, and the desire to keep reading.

At the beginning, the same thing happened to me as with the previous volume: the relationship between the main protagonists was tiring. There’s the need to search for Jace, who has turned “bad” in the eyes of all the adults, except of Clary’s (unconditional teenage love—blind and painful), and thanks to her, later on, also in the eyes of her family and friends.

The best part in this story is Maia. Also, the relationship between Alec and Magnus, which I find adorable—despite the somewhat childish silliness of the younger one, who you can clearly see that is going to cause trouble. Simon also gets somewhat worse, and Izzy… Well, where is she???

That said, I have to admit that once Clary takes the reins, the story truly begins and moves forward with the fast-paced momentum that this saga deserves.

Even so, I have to admit I was disappointed by the drop in the quality of the writing—or perhaps that of the translation. I looked it up, and I found out that the first and second trilogies were not translated by the same person, and it shows. Some expressions and sentences feel like literal translations, without interpretation or adaptation to local culture or conventions, and that pulled me out of the book several times. That should never happen.

We’ll see how it progresses… I think that if it continues like this, I’ll read the next ones in English. I’ll let you know.
