Lehenik, esan behar dut hau Hampton Creek Presseko aurrerapen‑kopiaren inguruko iritzia dela; beraz, mila esker bai haiei irakurtzeko aukera emateagatik, bai Netgalley-ri hornitzeagatik.

Gustura irakurtzen hasi nintzen, dena nondik zetorren antzematen ari nintzela ustetan… harik eta bat-batean, ezer ez nuen ikusten! Horrek are gozagarriago egin du.

Oso gustuko izan dut J.D. Barkerrek Patrick Loganekin egin duen proiektu berri hau. Istorioak hainbat aldiz nola engainatu nau eta azken orrira iritsi arte guztiz antzematen ez diren sorpresa ugari ditu.

Me ha encantado.

Esta es la reseña de una copia anticipada facilitada por Hampton Creek Press, así que muchas gracias tanto a la editorial por invitarme a leerla como a Netgalley por proporcionarla.

Estaba encantada creyendo que veía venir los acontecimientos… ¡hasta que dejé de verlo venir! Y eso lo hizo aún más interesante.

He disfrutado un montón con este nuevo proyecto de J.D. Barker junto a Patrick Logan, y me ha sorprendido la forma en que la narración me ha despistado una y otra vez, con giros que solo terminas de encajar al final.

Me ha gustado también cómo están construidos los personajes y sus dinámicas. La protagonista femenina y el masculino funcionan de maravilla, pero no hay que olvidar al detective más veterano, una presencia irritante que, sin embargo, es imprescindible: como ese familiar del que no puedes librarte y que, para colmo, suele tener razón, lo que te encabrona aún más… Además, este libro tiene una forma de expresar duda e introspección de una manera directa y entretenida.

Este libro ha sido probablemente el viaje mejor calculado que he leído en mucho tiempo: contiene personajes que enganchan, la dosis perfecta de frustración y unos cuantos giros bien hilados. Ha habido momentos, sobre todo hacia el final, que me pillaron desprevenida… hasta el punto de tener que volver atrás para releer algunas escenas que había imaginado de forma diferente la primera vez. Me ha encantado esa sensación.

Recomendación: Sin duda, un imprescindible para aquellas almas que disfrutan del engaño con ingenio… en el mejor sentido.

I loved it.

This is a review of an advance reading copy from Hampton Creek Press, so a big thank you to both Hampton Creek for inviting me to read it and to Netgally for providing it.

I was sweetly enjoying the feeling of seeing it coming—until suddenly I didn’t … see it coming anymore! And that made it even more delightful!

I’ve really enjoyed this new project from J.D. Barker alongside Patrick Logan, and I found myself amazed at how the narrative misled me several times, with surprises you can only fully uncover at the very end.

I liked the development of the different characters and their relationships. Both the FMC and MMC are great, but the older cop is also an irritating presence that is an absolute must—like a family member that you cannot get rid of, and who, in this case, often turns out to be annoyingly right as well, which makes you even angrier at him… and yourself. It also has a way of expressing self doubt and introspection that is blunt and entertaining.

Tastes about as good as your pajamas look. Chap 24.

This book was probably the best carefully calculated ride (all puns intended)—with engaging characters and just the right amount of frustration and clever twists. I was genuinely surprised more than once, mostly at the end, and even had to flip back through pages to fully uncover some scenes that had played out differently in my mind the first time around. I loved that.

Do I recommend it? It’s definitely a must-read for anyone who loves being cleverly misled… in the best way.
